Why everyone is Microneedling and why you need to.

The microneedling trend has been around for a while now, but with huge advancements in the technology used in recent years, the results are now beyond incredible. This natural and non-invasive procedure for treating skin conditions is a miracle and we can’t rave about it enough.

The Beauty Lounge is a Gold Authorised Dermapen 4 treatment provider, so you can rest assured you're in great hands.

Here’s everything you need to know about microneedling and why you need to be having Dermapen treatments at the Beauty Lounge in 2021!

What is Microneedling?

Very simply put, microneedling triggers your body’s own natural healing response to create more collagen... and we all want more collagen in our skin!

Microneedling, also known as skin needling and Collagen Induction Therapy, can vastly improve a number of skin concerns ranging from fine lines and wrinkles to dramatic reduction of scarring, burns, pigmentation and more.

At the Beauty Lounge, we offer the most advanced microneedling technology on the market - The Dermapen 4.  This piece of equipment revolutionised microneedling treatments in the beauty industry and has made these treatments far more accessible with minimal down time and greater affordability.

How does Microneedling work?

The Dermapen microneedling process uses tiny and very fine medical grade needles to gently puncture the skin’s surface layer creating microscopic punctures. This stimulates the 'wound healing' response in your body and brings a flood of healing agents, collagen and elastin to renew and rebuild your skin without any damage to the skin itself.

To enhance this process, active solutions containing collagen, vitamins, antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients are applied during your treatment which penetrate the deeper layers of the skin through these tiny channels to maximise your skin results.

What skin concerns does Microneedling treat?

When treated as part of a course and in conjunction with a recommended at-home skincare routine, Dermapen treatments have dramatic results for a whole range of skin concerns.

While these are the most commonly treated concerns, the benefits of skin needling stretches across a huge range; we highly recommend booking in for a
skin consultation in order to work out the best fit for you.

  1. Stretchmarks - Although stretchmarks are completely safe and natural, many people feel self-conscious about them. Dermapen Microneedling stimulates your skin’s natural healing response to reduce the look of these scar-like marks, and can improve and fade stretch marks within two or three treatments over a few weeks.
  2. Scarring and Acne Scars - Microneedling can help by stimulating collagen and smoothing out the skin’s surface. When it comes to the effectiveness of the treatment, a study showed that 83.3% of the patients who used microneedling for acne scars saw an improvement in their skin.
  3. Acne - Dermapen Microneedling regenerates the affected area by stimulating the production and distribution of collagen and triggering the body’s natural wound healing response. The result is an overall improvement in the appearance of problematic skin breakouts, black/whiteheads (comodones), acne reduced, and scarring minimised.
  4. Pigmentation - Dermapen treatments are highly effective for treating hyperpigmentation, particularly on dark skin colours, where laser treatments may not be the safest option (Due to further pigmentation risks). Melasma is a skin problem characterised by brown spots on the face, forearms, and neck. It’s usually triggered by sun exposure, but it can also be caused by hormonal changes as a result of pregnancy or contraceptive use. A common preventative for melasma is sunscreen, but when it comes to getting rid of those dark patches, a study shows that microneedling is very effective at reducing recurring melasma in just 60 days.
  5. Skin texture and congestion / enlarged pores
  6. Fine lines and wrinkles
  7. Hair loss - It’s not just your face that can benefit from this treatment. A study suggests that microneedling improves the absorption of Minoxidil (an FDA-approved treatment for hair loss) on the scalp, making it more effective at regrowing hair.

Is Microneedling painful?

It may sound a wee bit painful, but it’s relatively painless and we can apply a numbing cream on request. The treatment may leave you with a small amount of bleeding and redness on the skin, but this will subside within 24hours and you can definitely head back to work after your treatment with a little bit of coverup to conceal any flush.

How many treatments will you need and how often will you need them?

A course of three to six treatments is recommended to achieve the greatest results for a majority of skin concerns (depending on what you’re treating and results of course). Ideally once every month or so, for the ultimate skin rejuvenation.

How quickly will you see results from Microneedling?

All good things take time. Your body needs to create fresh new collagen and healing agents, so over the course of a few months and a few treatments, you’ll start to see some very real improvements, some even see great results after just one treatment.
